Hello! Welcome to the Jersey Ken Yu Kai Karate website.
What is Karate?
Karate should more accurately be called 'Karate Do'. 'Do' means 'way' and 'Karate' means 'empty hand'.
The translation of Karate Do, then, is 'the way of the empty hand'. When we talk of 'empty hand',
we mean that combat is unarmed.
Karate is both mentally and physically demanding. No matter what level of fitness, you will eventually
encounter something that will make you work hard!!
